If you enjoyed the Regency-era decor shown in the latest season, you’ll love these decor ideas inspired by Bridgerton, the popular TV show!
“Just because something is not perfect does not make it any less worthy of love.”
Dearest, gentle reader, unless you’ve been living under a rock (and even then), you can’t have missed all the hullabaloo about the latest season of Bridgerton, featuring the second son Benedict and Sophie Baek. While the romance, costumes and dialogues are certainly amazing, my attention has been drawn entirely to the decor!
Bridgerton is set in the English Regency period in the early 19th century, during the rule of King George III. The show’s sets reflect the decor of that era, especially the soft colors, elaborate details and feminine touches. If you loved the homes shown in the show, here are some ways you can take inspiration from them!
Decor Ideas Inspired by Bridgerton
Alison Gartshore is the production designer of Seasons 3 and 4 of Bridgerton and she describes the decor style as ‘maximalism opulence’. Other words you can use to describe this style are Regency-core, opulent, elegant, and of course, luxurious!
While different homes are featured in the show, most of the scenes are in Violet Bridgerton’s home, especially her living room or morning room. And while it certainly is luxurious, there are still ways you can get the look for far less!
Pastel colors
Throughout the series, you’ll notice a gorgeous explosion of pastel shades in multiple colors – light green, lemon yellow, pale pink and powder blue. The production designer of the earlier seasons, Will Hughes-Jones, even had a very specific blue for the series called Wedgewood Blue.
Make sure you’re using the right tone and saturation when choosing your color – this is not Barbie! Jewel tones also make an appearance, but pastels definitely dominate. Gold is the accent color that works with all the other shades and looks lovely with the lighter hues.
Elaborate wall decor
One thing you can’t help notice in all the Bridgerton scenes is that not a single wall is left plain or undecorated – quite the opposite, in fact! Nearly every wall has gorgeous crown molding or wallpaper, or a combination of both! Damask motifs, floral patterns, fruit and even birds feature prominently on the wallpaper in Bridgerton homes.
Art also plays a huge role, especially oil paintings and portraits. Choose beautiful golden frames to showcase your art and pictures. If your home doesn’t have molding built into it, you can always try a peel-and-stick variety to get the effect for much less.
Dramatic draperies
One of the easiest decor ideas inspired by Bridgerton that you can try is curtains – lots and lots of them! Go with heavier fabrics like velvet or moire, and you can also pair them with sheers for a layered appearance. Play around with the pleats, folds and curtain accessories to give it that luxe look.
If you look inside the Bridgerton bedrooms, you’ll see that curtains aren’t restricted to windows – the beds have their own little world going on! The design known as corona is popular, as are four-poster beds with drapes. A design like this instantly adds a regal look to your bed, and you’ll feel like a queen as you fall into it!
Fancy vanities
Our Bridgerton ladies need specific spots to dress up for their balls – not surprising since getting ready is quite a process, what with corsets and all! You’ll notice that every lady has her own vanity area, with an antique table, a beautiful, large mirror and their personal care products in ornate bottles.
So if you’re currently spreading all your things on the bathroom counter and would like to change it up, set up a little dressing area in your bedroom. Install a vintage mirror, use beautiful bottles for your lotions and potions, and use pretty boxes for other items. Make sure to have a fluffy chair or stool – a lady takes her time to get ready!
Table settings
Some of my favorite scenes in the show are the ones where they’re having tea. I actually pause and go over the scene, looking at all the yummy treats arranged beautifully on little tables! All the noblemen and noblewomen use elegant tea sets, cake stands and crystal glassware.
You can easily bring the Bridgerton look to a themed event or even for your everyday meals. Spread out pretty tablecloths with matching cloth napkins, bring out the china teacups, teapot, and everything you need. And don’t forget the centerpieces – go all out with candelabras, candle stands or gorgeous floral arrangements.
Ornate finishes
The beauty of the Bridgerton set design lies in its attention to detail. All the items they use in their decor are beautifully crafted, with ornate details and gilded finishes. This is not the decor style where you go for sleek lines and smooth finishes!
Think scrolled armrests and baroque detailing, solid wood furniture and ornate candlesticks, porcelain vases and golden accessories. Patterns are intricate and detailed; the gold shines while the crystal sparkles. If you can get handmade, artisanal products, it adds an entirely different level of luxury.
Soft, feminine details
While Benedict’s bachelor quarters certainly have a messy, I-don’t-care vibe, most of the spaces shown in Bridgerton have a soft, feminine feel to them. You’ll find that florals feature everywhere, as flowers in vases, on wallpaper as well as on the cups and plates.
The abundance of furnishings also gives the space a warm, cozy, feminine feel. So pile on the cushions, quilts and blankets, and feel free to add details like laces, ribbons and ruffles. Avoid rough, hard textures and straight edges, opting for softer textures and rounder edges.
As you go through these decor ideas inspired by Bridgerton, you’ll realize that the Regency look is not for the minimalist or the neutral-lover. However, it’s not exactly 100% maximalist, especially when it comes to objects on display. Clutter is out of the question, and every single piece has its purpose and intention. Balance is key, and as you mix and match pastels, florals and gilded decor, you’ll end up with a space that Lady Whistledown would be happy to write about!
