Give your home the Presidential treatment with these decor ideas inspired by Politician, the popular Netflix comedy drama!
“From now on, I only want fancy things in my life.”
For most of us, our political involvement is limited to voting and watching the news, but what if you were to enter the field and actually contest an election? And do it in style?
Well, if you’re Payton Hobart, son of the rich Hobart family, you can do it by making the most of your privilege. And that is exactly the story of the Netflix series that’s appropriately named ‘The Politician’!
The series that premiered in 2019 is set at a fictional California high school named Saint Sebastian High School, attended by some of the richest kids in town. So it’s obvious that an election campaign is going to get intense, with lots of drama – and some gorgeous interiors!
Decor Ideas Inspired by Politician
According to the story, Payton Hobart has dreamed of becoming the President of the United States since childhood. So The Politician’s production designer, Jamie McCall, wanted to make sure that Hobart’s rooms would look like a place that a President would live in. He used John F. Kennedy’s presidential bedroom as a reference point, and that’s why we’ve got such a beautiful end result!
Beautiful wallpaper
The Hobarts live in Hobart mansion, a palatial home whose interiors are just as impressive as the exterior and whose rooms are every bit deserving of a future President! The high walls of the common areas and even the walls in the rooms are covered in gorgeous custom-designed wallpaper that looks super-expensive!
Besides the Hobart mansion, other character’s rooms also have an abundance of wallpaper, especially a gorgeous gold and green foiled wallpaper in Astrid’s bedroom. The wallpaper patterns absolutely jump off the wall – nothing boring in these rooms!
Classic flooring
With everything in The Politician being about money (and lots of it), it’s only natural that it’ll reflect in every aspect of the homes featured, from the floors to ceilings. You can find classic flooring options like marble and black and white check patterns, which are great ways to give your home a high-end look.
Oil paintings
You won’t find posters (New Girl) or framed record covers (Only Murders in the Building) in the Hobart mansion – they have serious artwork, like oil paintings! In the show, Georgina Hobart, Payton’s mother, is someone who enjoys painting, so we assume that some of the paintings on the walls are hers. The subjects are interesting – they range from a young boy in a turban to an old man in a suit!
Elaborate chandeliers
It goes without saying that a mansion will have chandeliers, and lots of them! The Hobart mansion has high ceilings, so a gorgeous chandelier really adds to the majesty of the place. The chandeliers featured in the show are absolutely stunning, and obviously very expensive. But I’m sure you can find something thrifted to recreate the feeling of a luxe space.
Carved details
The Hobarts seem like they’re old money people, which means their mansion is a historic structure. It’s natural, then, that they’d have lots of intricate carved details, along with architectural features like pillars, panelling, high ceilings and more. You can see these throughout the show, on fireplaces, doors, walls and furniture.
Tufted headboards
If you want a quick way to give our bed a luxurious upgrade, go for a tufted headboard. With so many young people having relationships on the show, we get to see a lot of beds, and they all have these beautifully tufted headboards.
Payton’s bed is a stunning canopy bed witha silk headboard, while Astrid’s bed is a pretty girly pink with a matching pink headboard. It also offers you a nice place to rest your head as you review your campaign material!
Heavy drapes
Like we saw in Thrombey mansion, heavy curtains help give any space a rich, luxurious look, along with a deep, moody vibe. There are lots of drapes everywhere in The Politician, from Payton’s bed curtains to the blackout curtains on the windows. The drapes look like they’re made from heavy, high-quality fabric, with details like embroidery or lace borders.
Luxurious rugs
Rich people need rugs in their home, and the bigger, the better! Of course, big rugs are expensive, so it’s obvious that only the rich would buy them. The homes in The Politician have gorgeous rugs everywhere, and they’re quite characteristic of the home they belong to. Hobart mansion has more classic style Persian rugs, while Astrid’s bedroom has a wild, zebra print one.
Colorful cushions
The Politician is not at all about neutrals or dark colors alone; there are lots of colors scattered around, especially in their cushions! Colorful cushions pop up in different parts of the show, in all characters’ homes, both indoors and outdoors! Some of them also have embroidery or weaving details, adding to the overall vibe!
Fresh flowers
People like the Hobarts would rather die than keep faux flowers or artificial plants around their home! That’s why you’ll find gorgeous bouquets of fresh flowers scattered across the show, even in homes that are not as rich as the Hobarts! It’s interesting that the vases are quite basic; it’s like they want the focus to remain entirely on the blooms!
Books everywhere
The Politician’s first season follows a high school election, which means we are sure to see lots of books lying around! Payton’s room features bound editions of classics, and even the other students seem to have lots of hardbound books with beautiful covers. Then there’s Keaton Hobart’s gorgeous personal library, which we could get lost in!
If you’ve always wondered what a budding President’s room would look like, well I hope you have your answer! But even if you’re not planning on running for an election anytime soon, you can still steal some of these ideas to give your space that serious, no-nonsense but still stylish look. At the very least, try these out in your office or workspace – you’ll love it!

Loved your eye for details. I haven’t watched the series but now I am tempted to check it out. The interiors are truly worth noting. They are simply beautiful and looks expensive and impressive as well. The chandeliers, the chequered flooring and the paintings took my heart.
Yes, it’s amazing how a single chandelier can elevate a space! Thank you for reading!
